The TNT products from MicroImages now display terabyte-sized images from your hard drive in a fraction of a second or in several seconds when compressed and copied onto a DVD. The tiles, DOQs, or other files making up the single, large, virtual image can be in JPEG2000, MrSID, or ECW format and, thus, remain directly usable in other products. For details see the illustrated Technical Guides at http://www.microimages.com/press/multifile.htm. Prove it using a DVD with a 1-meter resolution color image of Nebraska rendered at any scale in seconds. Request this sample DVD including a free viewer for Mac and Windows from info@microimages.com.

Industry Leaders Support Organization’s Commitment to Geospatial Interoperability
Wayland, MA and San Antonio, TX, October 23, 2007 – Today, at the annual Geoint 2007 Symposium, the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc.
(OGC) announced that Microsoft Corporation has joined the consortium as a Principal Member. Government agencies worldwide are realizing the power of geospatial applications to meet their missions in ways that are unprecedented – from public safety applications to famine and hunger relief.
According to David Schell, Chairman and CEO of OGC, “Microsoft’s support of OGC’s standards process signifies the further maturation of world markets for products and services which require geospatial capabilities. We believe that Microsoft’s participation in the consortium is positioned to make a major contribution to furthering the adoption of geospatial interoperability in key industry and government sectors. This will strengthen OGC’s role in shaping the policies and best practices needed to grow and support development of effective spatial data infrastucture worldwide.
As dependency on geospatial information resources for dealing with such global issues as climate change and disaster preparedness continually increases, it is of the greatest importance that the work of the consortium be supported by the deep infrastructure and information resources which Microsoft represents.”
Through its involvement with OGC, Microsoft is able to ensure the geospatial interoperability of its technology, including its flagship geospatial offerings — the Microsoft Virtual Earth platform – and Microsoft SQL Server 2008, which is scheduled to ship in the second quarter of calendar year 2008. Microsoft will submit the SQL Server
2008 geometry datatype for compliance to the Open GIS

emissions from stationary sources located hundreds of miles away,
according to a new U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) study.
Stationary sources include coal-burning power plants and other
industrial facilities. Although vehicles are the single largest emission
source of nitrogen oxides in this region, distant stationary sources may
have a greater impact on nitrate found in rain and snow.

Reston, VA - The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Association of American State Geologists (AASG) announced that they have developed an updated geologic time scale and color scheme for use in creating geologic maps of the United States. Geologic maps show the rock types at the Earth’s surface and help unravel the history of the Earth. They can help inform land-use decisions such as how planners should design buildings, canals, roads, and drainage of farmland. They can help locate earthquake faults and show where landslides are likely to occur to help plan for safer communities. They can help predict where resources such as oil, gas, and coal exist for resource development. “There is now a national standard for producing geologic maps and communicating the ages of geologic formations in the United States,” said USGS scientist Randy Orndorff. “Geologic maps are important tools for policy makers, planners and the general public, and having a streamlined way to create geologic maps helps make them a credible and viable resource for land-use and environmental planning as well as economic development.”
Geologists from the USGS, state geological surveys, academia and other organizations have sought a consistent time scale to be used in communicating the ages of geologic units in the United States. Many international debates have occurred over names and boundaries of units, and various time scales have been used by the geoscience community. To help remedy differences, the USGS and the AASG developed

MicroImages Integrates Geospatial Analysis with Google Earth and Maps
Use TNTmips to create ready-to-use standard Google Maps and Earth tilesets or KML files. Publish your tilesets using an HTML page and anyone can use them in Google Maps via their browser. Tilesets can be assembled directly from many different formats and coordinate reference systems using the TNTmips mosaic process. Or, directly import, export, snapshot a view, or render a layout from geodata in your geodata format into KML and KMZ files including images, photos, graphics, and styles. Support is also included to create OSGeo tilesets for use in Open Layers. For detailed descriptions of these new TNTmips features see the illustrated TechGuides at www.microimages.com/press/google.htm or contact info@microimages.com.

Wayland, MA, October 15, 2007 – The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc.
(OGC) today announced that Northrop Grumman Corporation has upgraded its OGC membership from Principal Member to Strategic Member.
Strategic Membership is the highest level of membership in OGC.
Northrop Grumman’s membership is through Northrop Grumman’s Information Technology sector. Northrop Grumman joined OGC in 1996 and has been either a Strategic or Principal Member of the Consortium since 2001. As a premier integrator for the geoprocessing and imagery communities and now as a Strategic Member in OGC, Northrop Grumman plays a leading role in the development and implementation of OGC standards for geospatial interoperability.
Northrop Grumman’s continuing commitment to OGC reflects the company’s understanding of their diverse clients’ needs for interoperable geoprocessing. Northrop Grumman is able to help companies and agencies address increasingly complex problems that involve sharing spatial data and processing resources. Decision support for critical infrastructure protection and emergency management, for example, may require some users to remotely access multiple sophisticated image processing servers while others rely on real-time updates to simple maps on their Web-connected PDAs, or alerts from sensor arrays. These flows of data and instructions typically cross the boundaries of multiple proprietary software platforms, so interoperability interfaces are essential.
“Northrop Grumman’s continued membership and active involvement in OGC is part of the company’s commitment to taking a leadership role in the effective and interoperable use of geospatial information and technology in meeting the mission and business needs of government at all levels as well as the commercial and other non-government sectors,” said John Olesak, vice president, Geospatial Intelligence, for Northrop Grumman.
Under the terms of Northrop Grumman’s Strategic Membership, the company will provide the Consortium with significant resources to advance OGC’s Compliance Testing, Outreach and Interoperability Programs.
David Schell, Chairman and CEO of OGC, said, “We are very fortunate to have Northrop Grumman as a Strategic Member. Northrop Grumman brings both corporate commitment and leadership to help the widespread implementation and use of standards-based geospatial capabilities in spatial data infrastructures both domestically and around the world.”
Northrop Grumman is one of the world’s premier providers of information management and systems engineering solutions for government and industry.

TNTmips and the other TNT products from MicroImages can display one or more layers from geodata published on the Internet by any OGC-compliant Web Map Service (WMS). Layers published by several different WMSs can be combined and used with local geodata you have in a wide variety of popular formats (e.g. shapefile, DXF, DWG, MrSID, JP2, GeoTIFF, and many more). MicroImages continuously searches the worldwide web and updates a catalog database of all the geodata layers published by any WMS. These layers can be displayed alone or in combination with other WMS or local layers. Geographic, subject, and other searches of this catalog are directly integrated into the TNT Display process and enable you to locate, select, and add WMS layers to your current view on Windows, Unix, Linux, and Mac OS X platforms. For details see the reference page at www.microimages.com/press/wms.htm.
