gvSIG and Plone: two open source communities advancing together

vSIG uses the free, open source content management system Plone, to coordinate the contribution to gvSIG of many collaborators. We at gvSIG are advancing together, thanks in part to the collaborative work by Plone developers and users.

The gvSIG community has been collaborating to translate gvSIG user interface to 20 languages, and continues advancing to make gvSIG available in even more languages. To facilitate this joint endeavour, gvSIG has developed with the valencian company Model Driven Development, a collaborative Plone application integrated in the gvSIG portal, allowing the coordination of a growing number of translators.

gvSIG is going to make the application available to the Plone community at large soon, releasing it as free, libre, open source software (FLOSS), following gvSIG phylosophy of avancing together, and in this case, together with the Plone community. gvSIG and Model Driven Development sl will extend the application, to cover not just the user interface of gvSIG and its extensions (using Java .properties format), but also the translation of Plone user interfaces (using GNU gettext PO format). We will inform about the publishing of this tool soon. For further information you can consult the gvSIG web portal, http://www.gvsig.org.

gvSIG is going to present the application for translation of user interfaces, to the international community of Plone developers and users, represented by Model Driven Development, sl, on the event of the First European Plone Symposium – 2009, being held in the week from 11th to 17 of May, 2009, at Sorrento, Italy (http://plone.org/events/regional/european-symposium-2009).
