Rostock-3D: First complete 3D City Model based on OpenStreetMap data with real building heights – available online at OSM-3D.org

The first complete 3D City Model (CityGML LOD1) based on OpenStreetMap (OSM) data was generated for the City of Rostock, Germany. The Kataster-, Vermessungs- und Liegenschaftsamt (KVL, Dep. of Surveying) Rostock donated the footprints of all buildings of Rostock after a random falsification of less than one meter of the footprint coordinates. On request of the Research Group of  Prof. Dr. Alexander Zipf the KVL also provided the height information of all the buildings in August 2009. The import to OSM has now been completed and through the tools developed for http://osm-3d.de the 3D model could be generarted fully automatically.
As a result the city now can be explored interactively in 3D via our W3DS-Client XNavigator at http://www.OSM-3D.org, including 3D routing through an extended version of OpenRouteService.org.
